Leeds Crowned Champions Following Dramatic Win
Manor Solomon secured a stunning last-minute goal to lead Leeds United to the Premier League as Champions, turning around a 1-0 deficit to defeat relegated Plymouth 2-1.
Knowing they only needed a win to clinch the championship over Burnley, who triumphed against Millwall, Leeds rose to the occasion with both teams finishing the season with an impressive 100 points.
On-loan Spurs player Solomon capitalized on a through ball from teammate Wilfried Gnonto, sprinting into the area to elude Nikola Katic before striking a low shot into the far corner past goalkeeper Conor Hazard.
Leeds started strong, winning a corner within the first minute, with Hazard forced to clear under pressure. He was again called into action in the ninth minute, preventing a header from Sam Byram following a free-kick by Solomon.
Plymouth’s first real chance came from Caleb Roberts, who misfired from long distance. However, striker Mustapha Bundu had repeated attempts that would ultimately lead to Plymouth’s opening goal, with his shot deflecting off Byram into the net.
Despite the setback, Leeds maintained relentless pressure and finally found the equalizer early in the second half when Gnonto tapped in from close range after a cross from Solomon.
Post-Match Reactions
Plymouth’s Miron Muslic expressed pride in his team’s performance despite relegation, noting, “We showcased good spirit against the best team in our division.” Leeds manager Daniel Farke also reflected on the emotional victory, stating, “It’s a proud day for everyone connected to Leeds United Football Club.” He acknowledged the challenges posed by Plymouth, crediting their drive even in defeat.
