Cal Raleigh had a standout 2024 season, hitting 34 home runs and receiving both the AL Gold Glove and Platinum Glove Awards.
SEATTLE, Wash. — Today, Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced a 6-year contract extension for catcher Cal Raleigh, keeping him with the team through the 2030 season, along with a player option for 2031.
“Cal is integral to our team’s success,” stated Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto. “His leadership combined with exceptional defensive skills and offensive impact is uncommon among catchers. We are lucky to have him as a Mariner and delighted he’s committed to us long-term.”
“Cal represents the finest qualities of our organization,” noted Mariners EVP & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander. “A homegrown talent, he has significantly influenced our performance on the field, within the clubhouse, and in our community. We are excited that he will continue to wear our uniform for many years.”
“Since my arrival in Seattle, this place has felt like home. The kindness and respect I received from day one are unmatched—it’s one of the best places to play professional sports,” expressed Cal Raleigh. “I wanted to remain here due to my bond with the Seattle Mariners and the people of the Pacific Northwest. I am grateful for this opportunity, and there’s no better place in MLB for me. We have a solid group of players and are close to bringing a World Series title to Seattle. I’ll keep working hard until this city gets what it deserves—a consistent playoff contender and a World Series Championship.”
Cal Raleigh, at 28, has established himself as one of the premier all-around catchers in Major League Baseball during his four seasons with the Mariners. In 2024, he hit 34 home runs and drove in 100 runs, earning the Rawlings AL Gold Glove Award and the AL Platinum Glove Award for being the league’s top defensive player.
Raleigh has led major league catchers in home runs for three straight seasons, hitting 27, 30, and 34 homers in the latest years. He is the first catcher to achieve this since Hall of Famer Mike Piazza. Furthermore, he has topped MLB catchers in caught stealing two years running, joining Jim Sundberg and Hall of Famer Gary Carter as the only catchers to do so since caught stealing stats were tracked in 1974.
In 2024, Raleigh became the inaugural Mariners catcher to win a Gold Glove Award and the first player at any position in the franchise to claim the Platinum Glove Award. He led AL catchers in innings caught (1122.0), framing runs (13), defensive runs saved (16), caught stealing (26), and catcher’s ERA (3.30) on his way to earning the Platinum honor.
