New Player Services Building at Augusta National
AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — After winning the Masters, Rory McIlroy returned to the Augusta National clubhouse, excited to visit the exclusive champions’ locker room. Last month, he discovered a new facility that, while less exclusive, is equally remarkable.
“They’ve built an incredible new Player Services Building, and that’s where the main locker room will be,” McIlroy stated. He noted that while champions may still use their traditional locker room, the new building is truly impressive. “Take my word for it,” he added with a smile.
Recently, Augusta National shared photos of the new Player Services Building, designed to enhance players’ experiences. The three-story structure, nestled among trees behind the practice range, appears as if it has always been part of the landscape.
Upon arriving, players can valet their courtesy cars or take an underground tunnel from Magnolia Lane to the parking garage. The corridor from the garage features a cross-section architectural depiction of every hole at Augusta National by Alister MacKenzie.
The new locker room, which captured McIlroy’s interest, is on the ground floor and features a short hallway lined with framed letters from legends like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods, thanking the club for their hospitality. The lounge area is a tribute to co-founder Bobby Jones, showcasing all four of his trophies from his historic Grand Slam in 1930, borrowed from the Atlanta Athletic Club.
The new locker room boasts 100 spacious lockers, complete with safety features, charging shelves for devices, and gold-plated emblem handles. The design includes a sitting area with tables made from magnolia wood and a collection of Masters stationery, encouraging players to write.
Downstairs features a modern fitness center and recovery room equipped with various facilities, including cold plunges and a sauna. The top floor hosts the Magnolia Dining Room, with seating for 150 and a terrace overlooking practice grounds. Accessible only to players and their close associates, the Player Services Building is designed to provide an exceptional experience for competitors, reflecting the Masters’ commitment to continuous improvement.
