OTA Overview
FRISCO, Texas – Throughout the Cowboys’ OTA workouts, various aspects captured our attention, including participant availability, player positions, and first and second team reps.
CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens
Particularly noteworthy was the budding relationship between CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, accompanied by an energetic environment fostered by head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who is instilling a family-like culture through activities such as free-throw competitions, team dinners, and ping-pong matches.
Dak Prescott’s Return
However, the standout feature of this initial OTA week is Dak Prescott’s return to practice. He is participating in agility drills and throwing the football with confidence, demonstrating no signs of the injury that cut his 2024 season short after just over seven games.
Significance of Injury
Prescott faced a significant injury—tearing a ligament that connects his hamstring to the pelvic bone in Game 8. This injury, coupled with a tough recovery process involving crutches and rehabilitation, has made his return all the more remarkable.
Feeling Great
Now, six months later, Dak reports feeling great and is engaged in the offseason activities, albeit still not cleared for contact. He anticipates this clearance as training camp begins, which would prepare him significantly ahead of the season opener against the Eagles.
Quarterback Importance
The importance of a team’s starting quarterback cannot be overstated. The Cowboys have only had two losing seasons with Dak at the helm, largely due to injuries. In seasons where he’s been healthy, the team has either reached or contended for the playoffs.
Future Outlook
As we move forward, Dak’s presence in practice signifies hope for the upcoming season. Coach Schottenheimer has noted Dak’s progress, and this development is crucial for the team’s prospects as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
