Texas Men’s Tennis Claims SEC Championship
College Station, Texas β The No. 5 Texas Men’s Tennis team secured the Southeastern Conference (SEC) regular season championship with a decisive 4-1 victory over No. 13 Texas A&M during the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown on Saturday.
This championship marks a historic achievement for Texas in their first season in the SEC. It represents the fifth time in the last six seasons that they have either won or shared a regular season conference title, with the exception of the 2020 season, which was shortened due to the pandemic. Within this period, they have claimed four outright titles, including those in 2019, 2023, and 2024 in the Big 12, alongside sharing a title in 2021.
Head coach Bruce Berque expressed immense pride in his team’s performance, stating, “Their consistency throughout the season and their dedication to playing for Texas is commendable. Beginning the SEC season with a perfect 12-0 record is no small feat, and this championship is a lasting achievement for them. While there’s more tennis to be played, weβre looking forward to the upcoming matches.”
