Micah Parsons Updates as Cowboys Training Camp Begins
OXNARD, Calif. — The anticipation surrounding Micah Parsons is palpable as he arrives at the Dallas Cowboys training camp. While the Pro Bowl pass rusher reported for camp on Monday, it remains uncertain if he will participate in practice starting Tuesday as he awaits news on a long-term contract extension.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, along with coach Brian Schottenheimer, did not confirm Parsons’ participation in practice, leading to speculation of a potential hold-in situation for the four-time Pro Bowler.
Discussions regarding a contract extension between the Cowboys and Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, have yet to take place. Neither Jerry nor Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ executive vice president, has communicated with Mulugheta about a deal.
In March, Parsons met with Jerry Jones to discuss his contract. While Jones mentioned they covered every detail, he refrained from suggesting that a deal was imminent. Previously, Jones has negotiated directly with players, bypassing their agents, but Parsons has preferred to work through Mulugheta.
With multiple high-profile pass rushers, including T.J. Watt, recently securing lucrative contracts, Jones expressed confidence that he is not worried about escalating prices as negotiations continue.
Schottenheimer noted that even if Parsons engages in a hold-in, it should not hinder the team’s progress. He emphasized Parsons’ desire to take on a leadership role while acknowledging the importance of his presence at camp.
In addition to the Parsons situation, topics discussed included a $500,000 pay cut in cornerback Trevon Diggs‘ contract due to his limited participation during the offseason rehab for a knee injury. Jones stressed the significance of fulfilling contractual agreements to maintain team morale and integrity.
