EXCLUSIVE: Kai Parham (Colin in Black and White) and Michael Ealy (Power Book II: Ghost, Reasonable Doubt) have been cast in Prime Video‘s limited series The Greatest. This series focuses on the life of Muhammad Ali (played by Jaalen Best) and is produced by Michael B. Jordan alongside showrunner Ben Watkins.
The series will explore key moments from Ali’s life and career—both celebrated and lesser-known. While Ali is renowned globally as a sports icon, The Greatest aims to highlight him as a man, including his roles as a husband, father, brother, and son.
In a regular role, Parham will portray Rudy Clay, Ali’s younger brother. Ealy will take on the recurring role of Malcolm X.
Ealy has often been mentioned as a fan-favorite for the role of Malcolm X. Although this will mark his first portrayal of the influential Civil Rights leader, he has previously participated in live readings of Malcolm X’s speeches, including in the documentary film The People Speak.
Notably, Ali was associated with the Nation of Islam, where Malcolm X served as a prominent advocate until the relationship ended in the 1970s.
Joining the cast are Omari Hardwick and Dana Gourrier, who will portray Cassius “Cash” Clay Sr. and Odessa “Bird” Clay, the parents of Muhammad Ali and Rudy Clay, respectively. Amin Joseph from Snowfall will also appear as Sonny Liston, Ali’s rival and former heavyweight champion.
The Greatest is produced by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, which has a deal with Amazon MGM Studios, in collaboration with Watkins’ Blue Monday Productions and several other partners. Executive producers include Watkins, Jordan, Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo, and several key figures associated with Ali’s legacy.
Ealy was recently featured in Power Book II: Ghost and is set to appear alongside Taylor Kitsch in The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. He has an extensive filmography including Netflix titles and has received accolades for his performances. Parham, whose acting journey started at a young age, has transitioned from stage to screen, gaining recognition in projects like Colin in Black & White and various commercials.
