A New Era in Combat Sports
A revolution in combat sports is approaching, driven by the Dirty Boxing Championship (DBX). Co-owned by mixed martial artists and bare-knuckle boxer Mike Perry, the league boasts prominent ambassadors like UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and boxing icon Roy Jones Jr.
Upcoming Event: DBX2 in Miami
The second official DBX event, DBX2, will occur at The Hangar in Coconut Grove, Miami on Saturday, June 14. The face-off scheduled for Friday serves as an exciting prelude to an action-packed evening.
Insights from Mike Perry
Before the excitement unfolds, AS USA spoke with Perry to learn more about Dirty Boxing, described as a “super-fast and close-action combat sport,” merging elements from MMA and traditional boxing with unique twists.
The Vision Behind DBX
What led you to establish DBX? Have you always aspired to be a promoter as well as a fighter?
“I’ve always identified as a fighter and will continue to do so. While I’m awaiting my next fight, I’ve experienced thrilling bouts that fans loved. With that passion, we developed a unique sport and a fresh ruleset aimed at enhancing fan excitement beyond my previous fights. We have an array of brave fighters joining us, such as Yoel Romero and Andrei Arlovski, with eight UFC fighters featuring in Saturday’s lineup. It’s incredible to have their support.”
What Makes Dirty Boxing Unique?
Can you elaborate on Dirty Boxing’s unique selling proposition and the innovative rules?
“Dirty Boxing involves using 4oz gloves and incorporates spinning backfists and Superman punches, resembling an upper-body MMA striking style. A pivotal difference from traditional boxing or MMA is the use of elbows. We permit elbows in our boxing style, which isn’t always allowed in MMA. Ground and pound techniques are also a part of the strategy, enabling continued strikes if an opponent is knocked down, ensuring continuous action.”
Future Aspirations for DBX
What are your long-term goals for DBX over the next 5-10 years?
“This is merely our second event, and the reception for DBX1 was staggering with 10.5 million streams and 50,000 concurrent viewers. We aim to establish ourselves as a formidable presence in combat sports; maybe even becoming the leading entity. Imagine a fighter akin to Mike Tyson utilizing 4oz gloves, delivering elbows and ground strikes—a thrilling spectacle, indeed.”
What to Expect at DBX2
What can fans look forward to on June 14 in Miami?
“The fighters are eager to compete, creating an electric atmosphere. It’s the calm before the storm; once they enter the ring, they’ll fight hard and entertain fans. Expect an array of stars in attendance, with fighters putting everything on the line for your entertainment.”
