Mirra Andreeva aims for another notable performance at Roland Garros, following her semi-final appearance last year.
The Russian player Andreeva reached the semi-finals at the French Open in 2024 but fell short of the final as she was defeated by Jasmine Paolini.
In 2025, she elevated her performance by winning the Dubai Tennis Championships and later captured her second WTA 1000 title at Indian Wells.
Currently ranked sixth on the WTA Tour, Andreeva is expected to make a significant impact at the French Open.
After her first match victory against Cristina Bucsa, Andreeva was queried about whether she watches her coach Conchita Martinez’s greatest matches.
Andreeva on Martinez’s Wimbledon Triumph
In an interview with the Tennis Channel, Andreeva shared her thoughts on Martinez’s 1994 Wimbledon final win over Martina Navratilova.
“One day she advised me to watch her match against [Martina] Navratilova at Wimbledon. I did and it was actually quite impressive,” Andreeva remarked.
However, she humorously noted that if Martinez were present, she might give a more critical review. “If she were watching, I might say it could have been better, but she indeed played exceptionally well,” she added.
Martinez, who entered Wimbledon in 1994 as the third seed, aimed for her first Grand Slam title. After advancing to the finals, she triumphed over Navratilova, claiming her only Major title with a final score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Andreeva’s Path at the 2025 French Open
Andreeva is likely pleased with her French Open draw, as her journey to the semi-finals appears manageable.
- 2R v Ashlyn Krueger
- 3R v Yulia Putinsteva
- 4R v Paula Badosa
- QF v Jessica Pegula
Jessica Pegula, who is ranked number three and has won a title on clay this year, may pose a challenge in the quarter-finals, although Andreeva is optimistic following Pegula’s recent struggles on clay.
If Andreeva manages to defeat Gauff, a potential semi-final opponent, she would likely face either Sabalenka or Iga Swiatek in the final, both of whom she has already beaten this year.
For now, however, she remains focused on her second-round match against Ashlyn Krueger, set for Thursday, May 29.
