Rafael Nadal Welcomes Second Child
Spanish tennis champion Rafael Nadal has become a father for the second time. Nadal, 39, and his wife Mery Perello, 37, who already have a two-year-old son named Rafa, welcomed their second son on August 7 at Quirónsalud Palmaplanas hospital in Palma, Mallorca, according to local reports.
In a touching tribute, the couple decided to name their new arrival after Mery’s late father, Miguel, who passed away in April 2023 at the age of 63 after a prolonged illness. Nadal, who has a historic tally of 92 singles titles and 22 Grand Slams, is known for his privacy and has not formally announced the birth.
Neither Nadal nor his wife made any public announcement regarding Rafa’s birth, although the tennis star did confirm earlier this year that Mery was expecting. The news of the new baby’s arrival came to light with the help of fellow former tennis player Boris Becker, who celebrated the occasion on social media.
Becker congratulated the couple, stating: “Congratulations to @RafaelNadal and his wife Maria welcoming their second boy Miquel! May God bless the child!” Daily Mail has reached out to Nadal’s representatives for further comments.
Nadal has previously expressed his desire for children, describing himself as a “family guy” but noted that his sports career made it challenging to consider family life. He emphasized the importance of keeping a low profile, stating, “We live calmer with a lower profile,” and reiterated that he doesn’t anticipate significant changes in his life with the new baby.
The couple dated for 14 years before tying the knot, with their engagement announced in January 2019. They celebrated a grand wedding in Mallorca, attended by notable guests, including former Spanish King Juan Carlos I, who made an understated entrance.
Mery Perello is known for her discretion regarding personal matters. In a rare interview, she mentioned that while traveling everywhere with Nadal is not feasible, maintaining their relationship requires a balance of space and support. Rafael’s illustrious career recently culminated in a retirement ceremony that celebrated his remarkable achievements in tennis.
