ODU Upsets No. 21 Hokies
Old Dominion achieved a significant milestone by defeating a top-25 opponent for the first time since 1998, overcoming No. 21 Virginia Tech with a score of 2-1 in front of around 750 attendees at ODU’s stadium.
Goals from Brooke Edwards and Riley Mullen led the Monarchs, who celebrated their coach Angie Hind’s victory with an orange drink shower. ODU (2-1-1) outshot the Hokies 13-6, preventing Tech (4-1-1) from scoring late in the game. This win marked ODU’s first victory over the Hokies since 1999 and their first over a ranked team in 27 years.
The Hokies started strong with a goal from Ellie Robertson just 4:24 into the match, but Mullen equalized shortly after. The deciding goal came late in the first half when Edwards scored off a pass from Finja Kappmeier.
