The Oval Invincibles achieved a momentous third consecutive Hundred title with a dominant 26-run victory over the Trent Rockets in the men’s final at Lord’s in 2025.
Choosing to bat first, the two-time champions launched an aggressive batting performance, spearheaded by Will Jacks, who scored an impressive 72 runs off 41 balls—a new record for the highest individual score in a men’s final. They finished their innings with a total of 168 for 5 after 100 balls.
Chasing a record-equalling target of 169, the Rockets fell short as Nathan Sowter proved instrumental in their downfall.
Sowter dismantled the Rockets’ top order, taking the wickets of Joe Root, Rehan Ahmed, and Tom Banton in a pivotal six-ball spell. A quick stumping by Sam Billings ended David Willey’s innings abruptly, and Sowter later caught George Linde, leaving the Rockets needing 81 runs from the last 30 balls.
Although Marcus Stoinis (64 off 38) and Ross Whiteley attempted a late fightback, hitting three sixes in four balls, Saqib Mahmood ended their hopes by running out Whiteley and claiming Stoinis’ wicket on the final ball, securing a historic win for the Invincibles.
Jacks Leads Invincibles to Another Title
The Invincibles chose to bat after winning the toss, setting the pace with 31 runs before opener Tawanda Muyeye was dismissed off Dillon Pennington’s first delivery. Jacks reached a rapid 50 with a colossal 91m six, forming a crucial 87-run partnership with Jordan Cox (40 off 28 balls).
Following Cox’s dismissal, Jacks fell for 72 after striking back-to-back boundaries off Willey. Ferreira and Curran carried the momentum, propelling the Invincibles to 168-5, a joint-highest total in a Hundred final.
In response, the Rockets stumbled early as Sowter, stepping in for Rashid Khan, decimated the top order, claiming Root, Ahmed, and Banton with six remarkable deliveries. Despite Stoinis’ efforts, the Invincibles managed to limit the Rockets to 142-8, clinching their third title in a row.
Billings Reflects on a Memorable Victory
Sam Billings, the Invincibles’ captain, commented on the achievement: “It is incredible and very special. We’ve shown consistency over the years, leading to our success. I’m proud of the entire team, and everyone has played a part in our accomplishments.”
