Pam Shriver is deeply committed to promoting women’s tennis and is a former US Open singles finalist.
Until recently, Shriver coached Donna Vekic and is also a former world number one in doubles, accumulating a total of 22 Grand Slam titles throughout her career.
Discussions frequently arise around the inequities between men’s and women’s tennis and how both circuits can achieve equal treatment.
Recently, Shriver expressed her vision for enhancing the WTA Tour, asserting that it could become ‘much better’.

The women’s singles event at the US Open has seen six different champions over the past six years.
Currently, Aryna Sabalenka is the reigning US Open champion, with others like Emma Raducanu, Naomi Osaka, and Bianca Andreescu also having claimed this prestigious title recently.
During a discussion with Talking Tennis regarding Raducanu, Shriver highlighted how beneficial it would be for women’s tennis if past champions like Osaka and Andreescu could return to form.
“Now at 22, Raducanu is gradually improving and figuring out how to maintain her health,” Shriver stated. “While many scrutinize her frequent coaching changes, she appears to be clear-headed about her game plan.”
Raducanu recently demonstrated improvements in her game during a semifinal run at the Washington Open, where she defeated Osaka, who has been struggling to regain her former top level.
Pam Shriver discusses Emma Raducanu’s potential for another Grand Slam title
Raducanu’s historic 2021 US Open win as a qualifier at just 18 years old shocked the sports community.
Since then, she has faced numerous injury issues, including surgeries on her wrists and left ankle in 2023.
Raducanu has struggled to advance past the fourth round in any major since, with Shriver weighing in on whether she can add to her Grand Slam accomplishments.
“If she can come out of qualifying and win ten straight matches, I wouldn’t rule out her chances,” Shriver mentioned. “However, if you exclude her US Open win from her resume, you might doubt her ability to win another.”
Since that memorable victory, the US Open remains the only Grand Slam tournament where she has failed to win a match.
