In July 2025, a rumor claimed that Patrick Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl MVP, donated $1.5 million to flood relief in Texas, asserting that he also provided housing for homeless families affected by the floods. Various users shared these claims, discussing Mahomes’ supposed acts of generosity in response to the disaster.
Mahomes, originally from Tyler, Texas, attended high school in Whitehouse and went to Texas Tech University in Lubbock. These areas are far from Kerr County, where the floods tragically resulted in over 100 deaths, with more than 160 individuals still unaccounted for as of the latest reports.
On July 7, a Facebook profile called NFL Legend shared a post featuring a photo of Mahomes and alleged images of flood victims, which garnered over 158,000 reactions. This post contained a misleading narrative claiming Mahomes’ emotional response and charitable donations in the wake of the floods.
While it is true that the Dallas Cowboys pledged $500,000 to flood relief, the claims of Mahomes’ generosity were fabricated. Search engines revealed that no credible news organizations reported on any donations or assistance from Mahomes, which would have been significant if true.
In addition to misleading claims about Mahomes, the post inaccurately referenced the number of victims from an all-girls camp affected by the floods. Similarly, reverse image searches of shared photos revealed that some images were outdated and irrelevant to the 2025 floods. These fabricated stories echo a pattern found in fictional yet inspirational celebrity tales, often aiming to generate traffic to linked blog sites.
