The NFL Draft cycle for 2026 is upon us! Unlike last season when I was immersed in mock drafts by November, this year my interest didn’t kick in until late February. It’s a nice dilemma to have. Let’s delve into the developments for this draft cycle.
It’s important to note that predicting draft picks before free agency and trades unfold can be somewhat misguided. For this mock draft, let’s assume the New England Patriots make some signings at left guard and defensive edge to strengthen their starting lineup.
(Projected draft slots from Round 4 onwards based on consensus board rankings)
1-31 WR K.C. Concepcion (Texas A&M | No. 28): Concepcion is an explosive player, leading the SEC with nine touchdown catches last season and amassing 919 receiving yards, despite less-than-ideal quarterback play. He’s versatile, capable of lining up outside or in the slot, and despite a history of drops, his athleticism and route-running skills suggest he can become an elite receiver in the NFL.
2-63: LB Jacob Rodriguez (Texas Tech | No. 58): The Patriots acquired Robert Spillane as a free agent in 2025, significantly boosting their defense, but depth at linebacker was a concern during Spillane’s injury absence. Rodriguez would be an excellent addition, boasting strong coverage skills and the ability to navigate through traffic effectively, making him a perfect fit for the Patriots’ defensive scheme.
3-95: CB Davison Igbinosun (Ohio State | No. 74): Igbinosun is a fiery, aggressive corner that fits the mold of what Mike Vrabel appreciates. While he can sometimes be overly physical, he excels in run defense and brings an energetic approach to coverage. He’s likely to provide depth in 2026 but could take over for Carlton Davis in 2027.
What do you think of these selections? Are there any adjustments you would suggest? Feel free to share your thoughts on this mock draft in the comments section below.
