Security Alert Halts Fujairah Challenger Event
On Tuesday afternoon, play was halted at the Fujairah Challenger event in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to a security alert.
Three matches were occurring in the ATP-sanctioned tournament, which is a tier below the main Tour, when the decision to stop play was made around 1 PM local time.
Video footage of the match between Hayato Matsuoka and Daniil Ostapenkov captured the players, umpire, and ball kids quickly leaving the court after being instructed to “get inside the building please.”

In an email to The Athletic, the ATP stated: “Play at the ATP Challenger Tour event in Fujairah was suspended today following a security alert. In accordance with established security protocols, play was immediately halted and all players, officials, and staff were directed to safe areas.”
The ATP emphasized the priority of player, staff, and personnel safety, confirming that all matches for the remainder of the day would be canceled as a precaution. They are actively monitoring the situation and will provide additional updates as necessary.
British player Finn Bass, ranked No. 296, expressed disbelief over the event’s continuation, stating on X, “Was meant to be playing there this week, cannot believe they’ve gone ahead and not cancelled the event. Madness.”
Ukrainian player Vladyslav Orlov also reported hearing jets during his qualifying match, highlighting concerns over safety with visible smoke and sounds indicative of conflict. The UAE had seen projectile activity following recent tensions, as Iran retaliated against U.S. bases in the region.
