Earlier this year, MotoGP invited ESPN to photograph behind-the-scenes moments during a grand prix. The picturesque Red Bull Ring in Austria served as the ideal backdrop, while the sport’s 11 teams offered unique insights into their racing weekends.
What emerged was a motorsport series that retains its exciting authenticity, providing the highest level of two-wheel racing to fans globally. The on-track action showcases extraordinary talent and courage, with close-knit teams ensuring continuity week after week.

Moped GP
Before the race weekend begins, Red Bull invites 50cc moped owners to clock a few laps around the track. Along with six Red Bull-affiliated racers, hundreds of mopeds rev up, creating a cloud of exhaust during the “Moped GP.” While not a competitive race, MotoGP stars like Pedro Acosta showcase their skills, winning accolades for high wheelies.
Preparing for Practice
As final arrangements are made for the first practice session, a member of the Ducati Lenovo team expresses affection for the calm before the action starts. With everything in place, including four pristine GP25 bikes, Márquez shares laughs with crew chief Marco Rigamonti as mechanics put finishing touches on the bikes.
On-Track Action
Riders follow unique routines before heading out for each session, with traditional pit boards providing essential communication. Mechanics deftly work on the bikes in between sessions, performing rapid tire changes and adjustments, evidencing their remarkable dexterity in the pits.

On race day, the grid is bustling with teams making final checks while riders prepare. Starting in the second row, Márquez appears composed amidst the chaos as he shares a brief conversation and a smile with his team manager before putting on his helmet.
The Race
The sight of the bikes weaving through the first corner is electric, showcasing exceptional skill and courage. Within the first two laps, Márquez advances to second place and relentlessly pursues Marco Bezzecchi. When he finally takes the lead on lap 20, it marks not only his ninth win of the 2025 season but also his first victory at the Red Bull Ring. He later secures his seventh MotoGP title in Japan, marking a significant milestone in his career with Ducati.
