Taiko Drumming Highlights Pregame Ceremony for Tokyo Series
On March 19th, 2025, the Tokyo Dome was transformed with the presence of six large Japanese lanterns set up along the warning track, shining brightly under spotlights. The atmosphere was further electrified as LED lights connected to special wristbands for the 45,000 spectators illuminated as part of the Tokyo Series festivities.
A special video segment, crafted by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi—an enthusiastic supporter of international baseball—highlighted the profound connection between the United States and Japan, emphasizing how the sport unifies these two countries across the Pacific.
As the crowd buzzed with anticipation, traditional Japanese musicians began to perform, marking the moment for announcing the starting lineups. The players made their entrance to the resonant sound of massive taiko drums, creating a thunderous welcome.
The excitement escalated as the vocal group Little Glee Monster took the stage to perform both the American and Japanese national anthems, a moment that resonated deeply with the fans present.
To cap off the pregame celebrations, former Chicago Cubs pitcher Koji Uehara, who proudly holds the title of 2013 World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox, was invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch. Behind the plate, Shota Imanaga was ready, skillfully framing Uehara’s pitch back into the strike zone.
This unique blend of culture, music, and sportsmanship set the tone for an unforgettable match, symbolizing the camaraderie and shared love for baseball between Japan and the U.S.
The vibrant festivities encapsulated the essence of the Tokyo Series, showcasing not only the athletic prowess of the teams but also the cultural connections that baseball fosters internationally.
