Roborock Unveils Stair-Climbing Vacuum at CES 2026
At CES 2026, Roborock showcased an innovative autonomous vacuum cleaner, the Saros Rover, which not only navigates stairs but also cleans them as it climbs. This presents a potential major advancement in home robotics.
According to Katie Leonowitz, Roborock’s North American public relations manager, “We’re really excited about this product. It’s the first robot on the market that cleans stairs while climbing.” This capability addresses the common issue of robotic vacuums halting at stairs, leaving users to tackle the spaces in between.
The Saros Rover, still under development, represents a significant industry milestone. Although Roborock has a functioning prototype displayed at CES, Leonowitz mentioned that further refinements are expected in the upcoming year, with a goal to present more advancements by 2027.
Roborock’s innovations extend beyond just vacuum cleaners. The company is also venturing into outdoor cleaning solutions, including a line of robotic lawnmowers designed for various yard sizes and complexities. These mowers utilize satellite navigation and lidar technology to adapt to different terrains effectively.
Other companies, such as Ecovacs Robotics and legacy brands like Samsung and LG, have also unveiled new robotic vacuums, highlighting advancements in features and technologies. For instance, Samsung introduced the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra, while LG showcased a model with a built-in station under kitchen counters, demonstrating the competitiveness in the evolving market.
Leonowitz emphasized that the core of Roborock’s technology is driven by AI, which allows their machines to intelligently perceive and adapt to their environments. “We aim to continuously improve our AI to ensure we have the most advanced solutions available,” she stated.
While the Saros Rover may not eliminate the need for manual vacuuming entirely, it offers a glimpse into a future where home maintenance can be handled autonomously and efficiently, covering even the most challenging cleaning tasks, one stair at a time.
