Groupings for the US Open
Rory McIlroy has been paired with Ryder Cup teammates Shane Lowry and Justin Rose for the initial rounds of the US Open.
McIlroy has been the runner-up in the previous two US Open tournaments, losing to Wyndham Clark in 2023 and Bryson DeChambeau at Pinehurst No. 2 last June. The Northern Irish player aims to capitalize on his major win in April and pursue Grand Slam recognition following his triumph at The Masters.
Currently ranked No. 2 in the world, McIlroy has an early-late tee time as he pursues his sixth major title, which would match Sir Nick Faldo’s all-time record. McIlroy, Lowry, and Rose will tee off at 7:40 AM local time (12:40 PM UK time) on Thursday.
Defending Champion and Other Notable Pairings
Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau will tee off in an earlier group alongside world No. 3 Xander Schauffele, a two-time major champion, and reigning US Amateur champion Jose Luis Ballester. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is scheduled in a different grouping as he seeks to win back-to-back majors and secure a third leg of the career Grand Slam, going out at 1:25 PM ET (6:25 PM UK time).
Scheffler will play alongside Collin Morikawa and Norway’s Viktor Hovland. A notable trio featuring former world No. 1s Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm, and Dustin Johnson will compete together, all of whom are US Open champions. Johnson won the tournament the last time it was held at Oakmont in 2016.
Amateur Participation
Matt Vogt, a 34-year-old dentist and former Oakmont caddie who qualified for the major last week, will hit the first shot of the tournament at 6:45 AM ET (11:45 AM BST).
Live Coverage of the US Open
Sky Sports will provide over 40 hours of live coverage across the tournament’s four days, starting at 12:30 PM for the first two rounds and no later than 4 PM on the weekend. All four days will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Golf and partially on Sky Sports Main Event, with daily highlights available each morning and a full replay of the final round shown the day after the tournament.
