In a recent press conference in Dhaka on July 14, BCB president Aminul Islam was questioned about the performance of national senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin, who has faced scrutiny following the team’s lackluster results over the past nine months.
“I believe our batting coach Mohammad Salahuddin is performing adequately, and I prefer not to comment during the ongoing series. We will reassess after the series,” stated Aminul.
Aminul elaborated on the complexity of batting, emphasizing that it requires learning through varied experiences, compounding factors that make coaching crucial. “A batting coach is vital, akin to a doctor who diagnoses issues and applies remedies,” he added, highlighting the need for adaptable coaching strategies in different formats.
Following comments from chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain about actively seeking a new batting coach, there are growing speculations that Salahuddin may soon be replaced. In response, Salahuddin expressed his readiness to coach any level, indicating that the team’s needs come first.
Addressing allegations of favoritism within the team, Salahuddin urged for evidence regarding complaints against him, asserting that clear communication could aid in self-improvement. “If I’m found lacking as a coach, I won’t resist being replaced,” he affirmed, emphasizing his commitment to the team’s success and transparency in his role.
Despite nearly three decades of coaching experience, Salahuddin faces mounting pressure from the board for better results. His future with the team remains uncertain. As he hopes to foster a stronger culture for local coaches in Bangladesh, whether he’ll get the time to develop his vision is still unclear.
