Welcome back to SI Golf’s Fact or Fiction, where we’re feeling the effects of our recent trip from Ireland to Minnesota.
This time, we’re here to discuss various statements and determine whether they are “Fact” or “Fiction,” along with brief justifications. Occasionally, responses may be classified as “Neutral,” reflecting the nuances in the world of golf.

Statement: Can Scottie Scheffler win five more majors?
Bob Harig: FICTION. While it’s possible, predicting this is quite tricky. We’ve seen expectations set on golfers like Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy, but reaching that milestone is no small feat. Scheffler’s current performance is impressive, but winning five more majors is a tall order.
Jeff Ritter: FICTION. I agree with Bob. I recall when we touted “the McIlroy era” and “the Spieth era.” Scheffler is in great shape, but nine major wins is a lofty target, and I’d bet against it happening.
On Ryder Cup Selections
Bob Harig: FACT. The upcoming Ryder Cup will feature fresh talent. If young players are competing for the first time, it’s beneficial to have a player like Scheffler, who has proven he can hold his own in tough tournaments.
John Schwarb: FACT. This year’s selections won’t just be determined by rankings. Captain Bradley is likely to prioritize form over familiarity, and Gotterup is a compelling choice for a rookie spot as long as he performs well leading up to the event.
Evaluation of LIV Golf Players
Bob Harig: FACT. Players like Koepka and Reed have struggled, and their past successes aren’t enough to justify a spot on the Ryder Cup team. Their recent performance has been disappointing, and they are not in contention.
Max Schreiber: FACT. Winning a LIV tournament doesn’t enhance a player’s chances for team selection in the Ryder Cup. DeChambeau is the only LIV golfer who consistently performed well in majors, while others have faltered significantly.
