After leading the Seattle Seahawks to their second Lombardi Trophy, questions lingered at the season’s start about Sam Darnold’s future as the team’s starting quarterback.
With Seahawks back on top, it’s time for Seattle to soak it all in
Following a strong season with the Minnesota Vikings, Darnold was signed to a three-year deal with the Seahawks last March. To ensure depth, Seattle also selected Alabama’s Jalen Milroe in the draft’s third round about a month later.
However, Milroe mostly remained inactive, serving as the emergency third-string quarterback on game days. He participated in three early-season games, running a special package, but didn’t see playtime after Week 5.
With Darnold firmly established as Seattle’s quarterback for the foreseeable future, Milroe may need to bide his time for an opportunity, unless the Seahawks opt to trade him given the numerous teams searching for quarterbacks in an offseason marked by a weak free-agent and draft class.
ESPN’s Benjamin Solak recently highlighted the underwhelming quarterback market, suggesting possible trade opportunities for teams like the Seahawks, including Milroe positioned as a potential gamble for interested parties.
The Seahawks face challenges this offseason as they assess which key players will return, with several impending free agents, including Kenneth Walker III and Rashid Shaheed. Although they are well-positioned financially, possessing $72 million in cap space, that figure may decrease if they extend star players like Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
