BOSTON – Tatum’s Recovery Progress
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum didn’t have his most standout performance against the Washington Wizards this month. However, in his fourth game returning from a torn Achilles tendon, he marked a significant milestone in his recovery with a lifted minutes restriction.
Strong Performance Against Wizards
Tatum recorded 20 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists in a season-high 32 minutes on Saturday, helping the Celtics secure a 111-100 win over the Wizards. Although playing the entire third quarter wasn’t part of the original strategy, Tatum anticipated the increase in playing time.
Progressing Well
“I knew my minutes would increase a bit this week; it’s part of the progression,” Tatum said. “I played 27 minutes in my first three games, and they gradually went up to see how I respond. I’ve been feeling great and recovering well, so we’re just moving forward from here.”
Slow Start, Strong Comeback
Tatum began the game slowly, missing his first five attempts, but found rhythm just before halftime with two free throws, followed by a 3-pointer and a jumper, closing the half with seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Dominance in the Third Quarter
He excelled in the third quarter, adding 11 more points, including a basket through contact and a transition dunk. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla praised Tatum’s ability to adapt and fulfill the team’s needs on both ends of the floor.
Future Minutes Uncertain
Tatum returned to the game with 6:11 left to play five additional minutes. His previous games had a strict 27-minute limit, and it’s unclear if he would have played more than 32 minutes if the match had been closer. The Celtics pulled him from play with a comfortable lead in the final moments.
Finding Confidence
Even after sitting out due to injury management in a game against the Thunder, Tatum noted feeling “a lot more relaxed” than in his season debut. He expressed that he grows more confident and explosive with each game, recognizing key moments contributing to his recovery.
