The No. 11-ranked and No. 4-seeded Maryland men’s basketball team continued their NCAA Tournament journey with a commanding 81-49 victory over No. 13-seed Grand Canyon at Climate Pledge Arena. This 32-point win marked Maryland’s largest margin of victory in NCAA Tournament history.
With this win, Maryland improved their record to 26-8, reflecting their best season since 2015-16 when they finished 27-9. This is tied for the sixth most wins in a single season in program history and marks their impressive record in NCAA Tournament openers since 1997, showcasing 16 victories in their last 17 attempts.

Maryland is set to face No. 12 seed Colorado State in the second round on Sunday, March 23. The broadcast details will be unveiled soon, but it will air on the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
After a shaky start, trailing 7-2, Maryland surged ahead with runs of 7-0, 9-0, and 11-0, taking a 42-28 lead into halftime—their largest halftime lead in an NCAA Tournament game since 2003. They maintained their lead throughout the second half, never allowing Grand Canyon to close the gap.
Leading the Terps was Julian Reese, who nearly achieved a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Ja’Kobi Gillespie contributed 16 points and broke the record for most three-pointers in a single season in Maryland history with 82 threes. Meanwhile, Derik Queen recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
