2025 Open Championship Preview
The 2025 Open Championship is set to take place at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, where Shane Lowry celebrated victory in 2019. Leading the tournament favorites are Scottie Scheffler (9/2) and Rory McIlroy (7-1). McIlroy’s impressive second place at the Scottish Open has narrowed the odds between him and Scheffler, who finished tied for eighth but trailed the ultimate champion, Chris Gotterup (90-1), by six shots.
Scheffler aims for his first Open Championship win after his best finish last year, where he placed seventh. McIlroy is vying for his second Open title, drawing strong motivation from the fact that the championship returns to his homeland, Northern Ireland. A win would mark his sixth major championship, capping off a season that included his first Masters title just three months prior.
Hot on their heels is Jon Rahm (12-1), whose excellent track record on links courses has bookmakers confident in his chances. Rahm is still in search of his first Claret Jug, but his stellar performance this season suggests success might be imminent.
A significant gap exists between the top three contenders and their competition, with Bryson DeChambeau (20-1) taking fourth despite recent challenges at The Open, which have led to three missed cuts among his seven attempts, along with three finishes of T33 or worse.
The reigning champion, Xander Schauffele (25-1), follows, but his struggles in the current season have positioned him as less of a favorite to repeat. Lowry (30-1) hopes to relive the success he enjoyed in 2019, and other recent champions, including Collin Morikawa (30-1), Jordan Spieth (55-1), Cameron Smith (110-1), and Brian Harman (120-1), also aspire to secure their second Claret Jug.
Below is the complete list of odds for potential winners of the 2025 Open Championship. Be sure to check out a full array of expert picks and predictions from CBS Sports, along with details about the nine contenders likely to bring home the Claret Jug on Sunday.
