TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — For the second consecutive day, the U.S. military is conducting a search for a pilot who was shot down in a remote area of Iran. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his threats to Tehran regarding his Monday deadline for opening the Strait of Hormuz, stating, “Time is running out.”
The American warplane, which Iran has identified as an F-15E Strike Eagle, was among two aircraft attacked on Friday. Iran has promised a reward for anyone who can capture the “enemy pilot.” Additionally, Iran’s joint military command reported on Saturday that it had also targeted two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters, although this information has not been independently verified by The Associated Press.
Now in its sixth week, the war began with joint strikes by the U.S. and Israel on February 28 and has resulted in thousands of casualties, significant disruptions to global markets, halted essential shipping routes, and increased fuel prices. The conflict shows no signs of abating as Iran retaliates with various attacks throughout the region.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Saturday that “we will continue to crush them,” confirming that Israeli forces targeted a petrochemical facility in Mahshahr, which he claimed supports the ongoing war. Iranian state media reported five fatalities from this strike.
In a national address on Wednesday, Trump stated that the U.S. had “beaten and completely decimated Iran.” Yet, on Saturday, an Iranian drone reportedly struck the headquarters of U.S. tech firm Oracle in Dubai, UAE. The Dubai Media Office reported a “minor incident” stemming from debris, clarifying no injuries occurred. Oracle did not provide immediate comments on the incident.
Diplomatic Efforts for Ceasefire
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi, announced that the country’s initiatives to negotiate a ceasefire are progressing well. Last week, Pakistan indicated intentions to host talks between the U.S. and Iran. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, affirmed that Iranian officials have always been open to discussions in Islamabad.
Search for Missing U.S. Pilot
The search operation for the U.S. pilot is concentrated in a mountainous area of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province. Iranian state television urged local residents to report any sightings of the “enemy pilot” to the authorities. An email from the Pentagon revealed that they received reports of an aircraft downed in the Middle East.
Significant Casualties
The conflict has already claimed over 1,900 lives in Iran. In the Gulf Arab states and the occupied West Bank, casualties have been reported, including over two dozen deaths. In Israel, 19 lives were lost, and 13 U.S. service members have also died. The situation continues to escalate, highlighting the need for immediate diplomatic engagements to stem the violence.
