Stefanos Tsitsipas is facing challenges with his performance in 2025, leading to a drop in his rankings.
The Greek athlete, who once held the world number three position, is currently ranked as the 29th best player on the ATP Tour.
As a two-time Grand Slam finalist, Tsitsipas has previously reached the finals of the French Open in 2021 and the Australian Open in 2023, but those achievements now seem far behind him.
Tsitsipas Prefers Winning the Davis Cup Over a Grand Slam
In a recent interview with Greek media outlet SDNA, Tsitsipas opened up about his goals for the remainder of the season, expressing a strong desire to win the Davis Cup.
He stated, “My passion for the Davis Cup is immense. A title in this tournament would mean more to me than a Grand Slam victory.” He emphasized the joy of contributing to his national team’s success as a more fulfilling experience than individual Grand Slam wins.
Tsitsipas’ Davis Cup Performance
Tsitsipas, who has not played for Greece in their recent match against Egypt, is regarded as the country’s top tennis player. He has a commendable Davis Cup record, having participated in 16 matches since his debut in 2019 and winning 13 of them, achieving an impressive 81% success rate.
Looking forward, Greece will be competing against Brazil in September, with the winner advancing to the first round of the Davis Cup qualifiers for 2026. Tsitsipas aims to lead his team to a significant victory in this matchup.
Despite Greece’s struggles in the Davis Cup, Tsitsipas remains optimistic about the potential of young talents like 13-year-old Rafael Pagonis, who recently reached the U-14 boys’ final at Wimbledon. Tsitsipas believes that with continued development, Greek tennis could flourish in the future.
