Golf analyst Ben Coley has identified six players worth watching in their three-balls as the first round of the US Open approaches.
Golf Betting Tips: US Open Round One Three-Balls
1pt Treble: Schauffele, Fitzpatrick & Norgaard at 14/1 (Paddy Power, BoyleSports)
1pt Double: Grillo and Finau at 9/2 (General)
0.5pt Five-Fold: The Above Selections at 80/1 (bet365, Coral, Ladbrokes)
Schauffele to Defeat DeChambeau and Ballester (1229 BST)
Despite the risk of placing too much confidence in one player, XANDER SCHAUFFELE is a strong bet against Bryson DeChambeau in one of the prominent three-balls during the opening morning of the US Open. DeChambeau’s inconsistency off the tee could be problematic. While Schauffele has struggled with accuracy since returning from injury, he’d likely be favored in a fairway matchup, which may be crucial.
Fitzpatrick to Outscore Clark and Woodland (1240 BST)
Although I considered Zac Blair, I’m leaning towards MATT FITZPATRICK to overcome former champions Wyndham Clark and Gary Woodland. Clark has been performing poorly, and while he had better driving in Canada, it was on a course suited for power players. Fitzpatrick has made 9 out of 10 US Open cuts and is generally more reliable than his peers, giving him a solid edge at a good price.
Norgaard to Beat Campbell and Lower (1313 BST)
This week, I favor golfers who drive well, and NIKLAS NORGAARD is positioned to excel against Brian Campbell and Justin Lower. Campbell has been driving poorly and is one of the shorter hitters, while Lower has not placed in the top-30 since January. Norgaard’s recent performance at Quail Hollow should give him an edge in this matchup.
Gotterup to Defeat Lagergren and Howell (1336 BST)
Joakim Lagergren’s inconsistency makes CHRIS GOTTERUP the likely victor in this three-ball, particularly since the other competitor is 17-year-old Mason Howell. Gotterup has been in excellent ball-striking form, having made the cut at a previous US Open. If he maintains his focus, he should secure a win in this matchup.
Grillo to Overcome Lacroix and Bairstow (1730 BST)
Other than Scottie Scheffler, EMILIANO GRILLO is arguably the best iron player on the PGA Tour right now, boasting an average of two strokes gained per round in his recent outings. He should be able to handle Frederic Lacroix and Sam Bairstow effectively, as both of them have shown inconsistencies in their recent performances.
Finau to Best Hughes and Kirk (1858 BST)
Lastly, TONY FINAU is a solid bet against Mackenzie Hughes and Chris Kirk if his putting holds up. His US Open history is strong, and although he missed the cut at Oakmont early in his career, he has since excelled in major competitions. Given the current state of Hughes’ game, Finau is poised for a strong performance.
