Morning Warm-Up Highlights
The seasoned mud specialist delivered as anticipated during the morning Warm-Up, with Liam Everts setting the fastest time, finishing three-tenths ahead of last year’s GP victor Simon Längenfelder. Meanwhile, Triumph Factory Racing Team’s incoming red plate holder, Camden McLellan, secured third place in the session.
Qualifying Race Dynamics
Claiming his first Fox Holeshot Award of the season was the sole Kawasaki Racing Team MX2 rider, Mathis Valin. Although he had crashed from a similar position earlier in the Qualifying Race, this time he avoided mishaps and established an early lead over second-placed Karlis Reisulis on the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 bike, with Guillem Farres in third and Längenfelder securing fourth after overtaking Maddii Racing Honda’s Maxime Grau.
Mid-Race Developments
As the top riders began to grasp the track, Farres and Längenfelder swiftly overtook Reisulis on laps seven and eight. However, Valin soon suffered a chain derailment, losing a substantial lead and leaving his race in ruins. This unfortunate turn compounded when Farres, under pressure from the reigning champion, collided with a lapped rider and fell, allowing Längenfelder to take the lead and secure his third race win of the season.
Final Race Standings
Farres finished fourth, followed closely by both Valerio Lata and Reisulis. Janis Reisulis ended up right behind his brother while McLellan charged his way to eighth. With Längenfelder reclaiming the series lead, he entered the second race with an eight-point cushion over McLellan.
Race Two Highlights
The second race saw a fired-up Farres earn his first Fox Holeshot Award. Unfortunately, McLellan suffered a heavy crash and was unable to regain momentum, although he wasn’t seriously injured. Meanwhile, Everts pushed hard to overtake Farres but couldn’t finalize the pass, while Reisulis managed to find himself among the leaders again.
Description of Competitive Atmosphere
Everts relentlessly pursued Farres until the end, coming just three-tenths of a second short of victory. Farres secured not only his second race win of the year but also the overall title for the GP, significantly impacting the Championship standings. The reigning champion celebrated his birthday shortly before the event, reclaiming the series red plate with a 22-point margin over McLellan.
Looking Ahead
As the season progresses, excitement builds for the upcoming rounds, especially with the next race set in the sandy terrain of Sardegna. Competitors like Coenen and McLellan will be keen to catch up on valuable points, making it clear that this series is far from decided.
Rider Insights
Simon Längenfelder: “It wasn’t a bad weekend. I was lucky with backmarkers, but they were challenging. The track had its difficulties, yet I felt balanced and enjoyed it. The key was to stay on the bike as many faced chain issues in the ruts. I’m happy to have the red plate again, though there’s still a long season ahead.”
Guillem Farres: “Bouncing back feels amazing! After my frustration last week, this weekend went well. Though I had a qualifying mistake, I turned it around in the second race. We’ve improved the bike this year, and I feel I’ve matured too. I’m excited for Sardinia; it will be a new challenge, but I’m strong in the sand.”
