Manchester United may undergo a defensive overhaul in the upcoming summer transfer window, as Barcelona prepares to pursue one of their center-backs, while Red Devils scouts evaluate an impressive right-back from the Premier League.
There is also speculation that United could reignite their interest in a striker they previously missed out on to strengthen their attacking options.
BARCELONA EYE MARTINEZ
Manchester United faces the possibility of losing Lisandro Martinez to Barcelona following updates regarding the Argentine defender’s future.
Martinez is approaching the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, which could make him an attractive target for various teams unless United activates their option to extend his deal until 2028.
While discussions about a long-term contract could occur, the threat of Martinez being acquired remains until then. According to CaughtOffside, there are hopes at Barcelona of securing a deal for Martinez.
They will need to meet the right price point with United, who previously signed Martinez from Ajax in 2022 and currently do not wish to sell the left-footed defender. Nonetheless, Barcelona and other unnamed clubs are reportedly keen on Martinez, looking to present him with a new challenge.
UNITED SCOUTING BRENTFORD’S KAYODE
In another aspect of their defensive strategy, Manchester United is monitoring Brentford right-back Michael Kayode, as confirmed by sources.
Kayode is also on Manchester City’s radar as an alternative to Newcastle’s Tino Livramento. United’s interest grows as they examine their options, especially if they decide to move on from Diogo Dalot this summer.
Brentford values Kayode at £50m+, and does not feel pressured to sell, given that he only joined from Fiorentina last year and is not actively seeking a transfer.
UNITED RETURNS FOR DELAP
On the offensive front, Manchester United could regain interest in Liam Delap if Chelsea decides to make a significant call on his future by the season’s end.
Sources inform TEAMtalk that Delap is essentially playing for his future at Stamford Bridge in the latter half of his debut season. United previously admired Delap and have confirmed that their interest remains.
Chelsea supports Delap publicly, but their patience may wear thin if he fails to meet expectations, especially given his injury struggles. Thus, United could vie for his services if he becomes available in the summer, amid competition from Newcastle, Everton, Brighton, and Sunderland.
