RLUSD’s Impressive Growth Metrics
Since its launch in December 2024, RLUSD’s market capitalization skyrocketed to $1.56 billion from $132 million last year, marking a staggering growth of 1,278% year-to-date. In the past month, RLUSD has processed 515,000 transactions, generating an adjusted transaction volume of $3.5 billion. Jack McDonald, Ripple’s SVP of Stablecoins, indicated that this acceleration surpasses internal expectations.
Key Players Supporting RLUSD
Deutsche Bank has integrated Ripple’s payment infrastructure while SBI Holdings introduced RLUSD in Japan during Q1 2026. Recently, Japan reduced its crypto tax rate from 55% to 20%, creating a favorable environment for a regulated stablecoin in a compliant market.
Furthermore, BlackRock employs RLUSD as a settlement layer for tokenized funds like BUIDL and VBILL, providing a 24/7 mechanism for fund share exchanges into RLUSD.
Ripple’s Gains and XRP’s Decline
XRP reached a high of $3.65 in July 2025, but has since fallen to $1.42. In contrast, RLUSD has rapidly risen to $1.56 billion, securing partnerships with major players like BlackRock and Deutsche Bank, establishing it as one of the fastest-growing stablecoins.
RLUSD serves as direct competition for XRP’s primary role as a bridge asset in cross-border transactions. Adoption of RLUSD diminishes the necessity for XRP, as institutions prefer the stability of a dollar-pegged stablecoin over XRP’s price volatility.
RLUSD’s Path Towards $2 Billion in 2026
Looking ahead, RLUSD appears well-positioned to reach a $2 billion valuation by 2026. It operates under the regulation of both the OCC and NYDFS, and in Brazil, five significant financial partners have begun supporting its distribution efforts. This regulatory backing aligns with what institutional investors typically seek.
The introduction of the GENIUS Act aims to establish a federal framework for payment stablecoins, which RLUSD is suited to adhere to, transitioning it from a crypto asset to a regulated tool for treasury management and cross-border settlements.
The ongoing struggle between XRP’s intended utility and RLUSD’s tangible institutional traction represents a pivotal narrative within Ripple’s ecosystem. Ripple appears to be executing a strategic institutional approach that many blockchain firms aspire to emulate.
