Bianca Basilio’s Ambitious MMA Journey
Bianca Basilio is poised to make her mark in the MMA world after establishing herself in the grappling scene with multiple IBJJF world titles and an ADCC gold medal. She’s ready to get started on this new path.
Aiming for a Perfect Record
Regarded as one of the top female grapplers of the last decade, Basilio has set a bold objective for 2026—she aims to finish the year with a flawless 6-0 record in mixed martial arts. After achieving a victory by armbar in her January debut, she prepares to compete against Rafaela Guedes at LFA 229 in Sao Paulo, Brazil this Friday night.
Focused Commitment to MMA
“Since I decided to fully commit to MMA and step away from jiu-jitsu for a while, I’ve established that goal for myself,” Basilio explained to MMA Fighting. “Now it’s time to make it a reality.”
Weight Class Transition
Basilio previously competed at 141 pounds in jiu-jitsu, where the weight-cutting process differs from MMA—BJJ athletes weigh in just before multiple matches on the same day. She currently fights at flyweight in LFA but plans to cut down to strawweight (115 pounds) later this year.
Career Aspirations
“My goal this year is to engage in several MMA bouts,” Basilio stated. “I’m aiming for four to five fights this year, which is why I’ve been competing at 125, but I’ll transition to 115 soon. To keep active, I can’t constantly undergo heavy weight cuts. I’m testing my limits and building confidence for what lies ahead.”
Transitioning From ONE Championship
Basilio has competed under the ONE Championship banner but decided to part ways with the organization to pursue her goal of joining the UFC. “I had discussions and chose to end my contract with ONE Championship to follow a path that leads me to the UFC,” she said. “I believe in my potential and dedication.”
Inspired by Fellow Athletes
Basilio has followed the careers of athletes like Mackenzie Dern for years. “I’ve admired her journey and wanted to face her during my colored belt days, but she transitioned to MMA as I earned my black belt,” she reflected. Despite her ambition, she remains aware of the challenges ahead, inspired by the success of her peers.
