Bubba Watson Faces Challenges After LIV Golf Transfer Window
The tumultuous LIV Golf transfer period has hit Bubba Watson hard, especially after a significant late deal collapsed, prompting a surprising shift within RangeGoats GC as they prepare for the 2026 season. On January 9, Watson confirmed that Matthew Wolff, Peter Uihlein, and Ben Campbell will stay with RangeGoats GC this season; however, Campbell’s return has stirred some speculation in the golfing community.
Just a few weeks prior, many believed Campbell would leave the team after being released and entering the LIV Golf Promotions event. Insiders suggested that his time with Watson’s team was numbered.
Sources revealed to Flushing It that RangeGoats GC was aiming to sign PGA Tour pro Max Greyserman, ranked World No. 33, in what was believed to be an eight-figure arrangement. However, the deal fell apart just before completion, leaving LIV Golf once again without a new recruit and forcing Watson to stick with his current lineup.
After discovering he wasn’t being let go, Campbell opted to withdraw from the LIV Golf Promotions. The failed pursuit of Greyserman adds to the list of PGA Tour players turning down offers from LIV Golf as it approaches its fifth season. Greyserman, although yet to secure a win on the PGA Tour, had several runner-up finishes recently and was considered a strong potential addition for LIV Golf in 2026.
There has been a noticeable trend of high-profile players declining to join LIV Golf, highlighted by Brooks Koepka’s shocking exit from the league just before the holidays, reportedly turning down a $100 million contract. Koepka cited a desire for more family time, planning to focus solely on major tournaments and possibly participating in a few DP World Tour events in 2026.
While LIV Golf faces increased challenges in attracting elite talent, they have made some moves, including the acquisition of Victor Perez by Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks GC, and Laurie Canter joining Majesticks GC. Although further signings are anticipated, including potential deals involving Thomas Detry and Elvis Smylie, these have not yet been confirmed.
As Watson prepares his RangeGoats for the new season, he remains optimistic. “We’re excited to start 2026,” he stated. Despite challenges from injuries last year, he believes in his team’s potential, emphasizing the need for consistency and competitiveness throughout the season. After a mixed performance in 2025, Watson aims for a more successful campaign this year, with all eyes on whether he can maintain momentum against a backdrop of growing competition.
