Ducati’s New Era in the 2026 WorldSBK Season
The 2026 WorldSBK season represents a fresh start for Ducati, featuring an enhanced version of the Panigale V4 R.
Since its introduction in 2019, the 2025 V4 R has secured two WorldSBK titles and, along with Nicolo Bulega, contributed to a season dominated by both Ducati and BMW with Toprak Razgatlioglu.
Bulega experienced the 2026 bike for the first time during the 2025 season in Misano and later during tests in Aragon. Following the final race of 2025, he participated in a two-day test at Jerez, where he excelled, topping the time sheets on both days.
However, initial impressions suggest the new bike may not fully surpass the previous model, according to Bulega’s insights. “He appreciates some aspects but has reservations about others,” noted Aruba.it Racing Ducati Team Manager Serafino after the Jerez tests.
Understanding the New Bike
Despite being a crucial test, Serafino emphasized that initial feedback was just the beginning, as the team seeks to uncover the bike’s intricacies. The goal for Ducati remains to capture the title in the bike’s inaugural season—a feat they couldn’t achieve with the original Panigale V4 R.
Ducati’s target is clear: after finishing just 13 points shy of the 2025 championship, they are determined to compete for the title again. “I hope for some improvements,” Foti mentioned, emphasizing the team’s commitment to winning.
A Cautious Outlook for the 2026 Season
Although Razgatlioglu will not return for the 2026 season, Ducati’s technical chief Marco Zambenedetti remains cautious. “Our objective is to win the title, and ideally beforehand,” he expressed, acknowledging the intense competition ahead.
Reflecting on the previous season, he stated, “I’m proud of our continued efforts, but we must remain focused. Next year will see new riders and challenges, and it’s essential to be well-prepared.”
Continuous Improvement and Adaptation
The Jerez test was a critical opportunity for Ducati to gauge the performance of their new bike. Zambenedetti noted that progress was made not only by the factory and the team but also by Bulega and his new teammate for 2026, Iker Lecuona.
Addressing the differences between the new model and its predecessor, Zambenedetti highlighted extensive upgrades, including aerodynamic improvements, a revised chassis, altered weight distribution, and an upgraded electronics package. “There are many elements to fine-tune and understand as we prepare for Phillip Island,” he concluded.
