CES MMA 82: Fight For a Cause 3 Recap
CES MMA made a triumphant return to The Historic Park Theater on Saturday night with CES MMA 82 – Fight For a Cause 3, featuring an outstanding home performance from local favorite Dinis “Sweetbread” Paiva (14-9) against seasoned fighter AJ Robb (6-6).
Round-by-Round Breakdown
The first round showcased both fighters’ strengths, with AJ Robb focusing on leg kicks while Paiva utilized quick jabs and straight lefts. Robb attempted to ground the fight after catching one of Paiva’s mid-round kicks, but Paiva managed to escape and continued his jab attack.
In round two, Paiva’s sharp jabs consistently pushed Robb back, causing noticeable swelling under Robb’s left eye from a right hook. Although Robb again brought Paiva down by catching a kick, Paiva quickly regained his footing and returned to his boxing.
A Superior Display from Paiva
Round three saw Robb attempting to engage with Paiva but struggled against his superior boxing skills. Paiva unleashed a four-punch combination that bloodied Robb’s eye, increasing the pressure. Robb made one last attempt for a takedown, but Paiva effectively neutralized it. The final seconds were a flurry of punches exchanged between the two fighters.
Judges’ Decision
All three judges scored the bout in favor of Paiva, 30-27, marking a heartfelt return for the veteran fighter.
Paiva’s Emotional Return
Following the fight, Paiva expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s been a long and winding road coming back here. Thank you to CES for giving me the opportunity and the home to perform.” CES MMA Founder Jimmy Burchfield praised Paiva’s performance and loyalty to the organization.
