Event Details
San Benito families are invited to participate in “Family Boxing Aerobics,” a complimentary event taking place on September 20 in the gymnasium of Miller Jordan Middle School. The session will run from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and has a maximum capacity of 25 participants, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Passion for Boxing
“Boxing has been an integral part of my life since childhood,” states Abel P. Fonseca II, a professional trainer and amateur coach. He credits his grandfather, Pete Treviño, as his first coach who instilled a deep love for the sport and its discipline. “This event aims to share my passion while promoting family bonding and wellness,” he adds.
Healing Through Movement
Fonseca combines his teaching experience with mentorship, believing firmly in the therapeutic benefits of physical activity. As a cancer survivor, he shares, “Staying active played a crucial role in maintaining my physical and emotional health during treatment. I wanted to create a space where families can experience this healing together.”
The Next Generation
One standout student is 16-year-old Randy Herrera, who is gaining recognition in boxing. As a junior at San Benito High School, he could become the first student to turn professional while still enrolled. His father, Rolie Herrera, has been a steadfast supporter since Randy’s early days in various martial arts.
Benefits of Boxing Aerobics
Fonseca explains that boxing aerobics offers substantial physical and mental health benefits. “Kids develop coordination and self-confidence, while adults enjoy a comprehensive workout that eases stress and enhances fitness levels.” He believes the program goes beyond exercise—it’s about fostering connections and prioritizing health.
An Inclusive Experience
Designed for all fitness levels, participants can expect an exciting, adaptable session. Fonseca assures that everyone will feel welcomed and can progress at their own speed. The goal is to leave each participant feeling accomplished and energized.
Building Community Bonds
Fonseca emphasizes the unique bonds formed when parents and children exercise together, highlighting the event as more than just a workout. “This is a community experience meant to uplift families. My hope is that this event enhances our sense of togetherness and motivates healthier choices,” he concludes.
