On Saturday, January 17, the mixed martial arts event “KMMA37 Daegu” is set to take place at KMMA Popeye Arena located in Jung-gu, Daegu. This event will feature a total of 52 matches, including title matches, semifinals, amateur contests, and novice competitions.
To enhance accessibility, “Popeye Union Member KMMA37 Daegu” will provide live coverage starting at 10 a.m. on KMMA’s YouTube channel, which boasts 92.1 million subscribers, in addition to the 580,000 subscribers of “Yang Director TV.”
The highlight matches of ‘Popeye Union Member KMMA37 Daegu’ will include the light heavyweight title match, bantamweight title match, a super lightweight provisional championship match for men, and a women’s flyweight title match.
Kim Young-hoon (Kim Dae-hwan MMA), winner of the SBS entertainment show “Pure Fighter,” will defend his KMMA light heavyweight title against challenger Lee Seung-bin (MMA Factory Ha Dae-jeom), who is a towering 2 meters tall and participated in the tvN show “I Am Boxer.”
Jung Min-ji (Team Geum-cheon), the first KMMA women’s flyweight champion, will face challenger Go Yu-na (Seoul Body Kick) in her first title defense. Go Yu-na has gained experience by participating in various amateur competitions across the country.
In the bantamweight division, champion Shin Hyo-je (MMA Kim Dae-hwan) has lost the title due to two missed title defenses. Provisional champion Bae Sang-min (Jeonggwan Tim Mad) is set to become the regular champion and will face challenger Oh Dong-hyun (Team Orca) in his first title defense. Additionally, due to champion Lee Hyun-woo’s injury, Kim Hwi-dong (Blacklist MMA) and Yoo Do (MMA Factory Ha Dae-jeom) will compete for the provisional championship.
Founded by UFC commentator Kim Dae-hwan and former commentators from various MMA organizations, KMMA aims to create a competitive environment for Korean amateur athletes, holding monthly live events since October 2022. Upcoming events include “Popey Union Member K Jiu-Jitsu Championship 5” and “Semiang Daegu AA Tournament V” at the Daegu Textile Complex Cultural Complex on January 25.
Kim Sung-bae, chairman of the Popeye Association and CEO of the KMMA Fighter Agency, has expressed ongoing support for the development of the Korean fighting scene into 2026 and highlighted the backing from several sponsors.
