In our previous article, we examined some of the top players that the Rotoworld Baseball staff has been selecting frequently as we gear up for the 2025 MLB season. This allowed us to identify the players we are particularly excited about this season. Now, we’re ready to take it a step further with our bold predictions for the upcoming fantasy season.
The term “bold” can be interpreted differently, so some predictions may stand out more than others, but each one offers a unique insight that differentiates it from the players’ average draft positions. Discovering these players and the potential value they hold is often key to winning fantasy championships, so take note if you still have drafts coming up.
Dylan Crews will steal 60 bases
Dylan Crews, the second overall pick from the 2023 MLB Draft, recorded 12 steals in just 31 games during his debut. At 23, he struggled offensively with a .218 batting average and a .288 on-base percentage. With an everyday role at the top of the lineup for 2024, there’s a good chance he improves. If he raises his OBP, expect him to be a major base stealer, especially with his impressive sprint speed ranking in the 93rd percentile and the Nationals having led the league with 233 steals last season. – Nick Shlain
Oneil Cruz returns first round value
Oneil Cruz is known for his incredible raw power. Last season, he recorded the four hardest-hit balls individually and significantly contributed to the hardest hit statistics overall. His ability to hit over 450 feet was matched only by Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani. If Cruz can improve his contact rate, he could hit 30 or even 40 homers. Additionally, he showed a willingness to steal bases last season and appears ready to exceed projections this spring. A season with 35 homers, a .270 average, and 30 stolen bases could make him a first-round pick. – James Schiano
Emiliano Teodo will lead the Rangers in saves
This prediction takes a bold route, as the Rangers have kept Emiliano Teodo off their opening roster to continue his development as a starter. With a fastball that exceeds 100 mph, his transition to a closing role seems plausible. The Rangers have left gaps in their bullpen after releases and transfers, which could open the door for him to step in as a key arm later this season. – George Bissell
Jack Leiter will shine as the top AL rookie
Jack Leiter isn’t the favorite to win AL Rookie of the Year, but he has a chance to deliver significant fantasy value. His fastball has reached an impressive 98 mph, and improvements to his pitching repertoire will aid in his success. If he starts in the Rangers’ rotation, he could secure a strong position throughout the season, provided he continues to refine his command. – Eric Samulski
Cristopher Sánchez will be a top-15 fantasy pitcher
Cristopher Sánchez has shown promising ground-ball skills and an impressive innings load. The key to his ascent in the pitcher rankings hinges on reducing walks and increasing strikeouts. With improved control and fastball velocity this spring, he seems positioned to become a fantasy ace if he retains this performance into the regular season. – Jorge Montanez
Jake Fraley will accumulate 50 combined home runs and stolen bases
Despite battling injuries and a slump in power last season, Jake Fraley managed to hit five home runs and steal 20 bases. Given his consistent position in the Reds’ lineup, he’s very likely to exceed 30 steals if he can stay healthy. A bounce-back season featuring a combination of home runs and stolen bases could lead to impressive totals, making him an enticing late-round pick. – David Shovein
Austin Riley will lead the NL in home runs
While Shohei Ohtani is a leading contender for home run leader in the NL, concerns regarding his health may provide an opening for Austin Riley. After hitting 38 homers in 2022 and 37 in 2023, and with potential for ample plate appearances in the Braves’ lineup, Riley could be primed for an outstanding season, possibly reaching 40 homers. – Matthew Pouliot
