Tiger Woods aptly referred to golf as a solitary sport, and Matt Kuchar can definitely support that viewpoint.
The 47-year-old golfer is set to return to the Wyndham Championship this week, although he shouldn’t expect any special treatment.
Kuchar, the 2017 Open Championship runner-up, has some reconciling to do after his last appearance at Sedgefield Country Club last year, where he received backlash for his actions.
During the weather-impacted 2024 tournament, Kuchar opted not to complete the 72nd hole, which led to an apology from him. He needed a victory to extend his record of making the FedExCup Playoffs every year since its inception.
After a strong performance on the 17th hole, Kuchar faced criticism for his quick tee-off on the 18th, especially with fellow competitor Aaron Rai still in play. Despite hitting the ball into the rough, Kuchar made the unexpected choice not to finish his round as daylight faded.
Why Did Kuchar Continue on Monday?
Kuchar later explained that his decision was meant to show support for Greyserman, who was competing in the same tournament. He believed that had the round ended earlier, Greyserman might have had a shot at the win.
Wyndham Championship Prize Money
