If you haven’t yet seen the video showcasing dummy models of Apple’s upcoming ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air, noteworthy images were shared this morning by Sonny Dickson. These images align closely with other dummy models from the iPhone 17 series, demonstrating the remarkable thinness of the new device.
The anticipated iPhone 17 Air is expected to measure approximately 5.5mm in thickness, featuring a slightly thicker area for the camera. This design would position it as the thinnest iPhone to date. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro models are rumored to be around 8.725mm thick, a difference that is quite evident when viewed closely.
Impressively, this slimmer design approaches the thickness of the device’s side buttons. Reports suggest that Apple plans to utilize a combination of titanium and aluminum for the chassis of the iPhone, ensuring it remains sturdy and resistant to bending. Maintaining durability is important to Apple, especially following previous issues related to the iPhone 6 Plus’s bending concerns.
Initially, Apple considered making the iPhone 17 Air larger than its projected 6.6-inch display size; however, they have reportedly opted against this decision as a larger screen could increase the risk of bending. This indicates Apple’s commitment to ensuring the device’s sturdiness.
To achieve this remarkable thinness, the design may include a single rear camera to maximize space for the battery. Moreover, Apple is transitioning to eSIM technology worldwide to eliminate the need for a SIM card slot. The iPhone 17 Air will also incorporate Apple’s newly designed C1 modem, which was introduced with the iPhone 16e. Collectively, this is expected to result in battery life comparable to current iPhone models.
Apple is anticipated to introduce the iPhone 17 series around the usual mid-September period, likely alongside new AirPods Pro 3 earbuds.
