Jannik Sinner has maintained his position as the world’s number one for over a year, showcasing his exceptional talent on the ATP Tour.
The Italian sensation secured his first two Grand Slam titles in 2024, triumphing at the Australian Open in January and the US Open in September.
Riding that wave of success into the new season, Sinner successfully defended his Australian Open title, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
Unfortunately, he was unable to secure a third consecutive Grand Slam title earlier this month when Sinner lost in a thrilling five-set match to Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros.
Sinner Plans to Play Until He’s 37 or 38
On the latest episode of Served with Andy Roddick, Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill discussed Sinner’s future in tennis.
Cahill stated, “He genuinely loves the sport. He envisions playing for the next 15 years, potentially until he’s 37 or 38. Unlike my own experience trying to reach 30, players today have a different outlook on the longevity of their careers thanks to legends who have extended their playing time successfully.”
Sinner’s Character Beyond the Court
Darren shared insights into Sinner’s personality away from the court: “He’s just as impressive inside as he is outside. He’s a good young man with a balanced life away from tennis, displaying youthful traits while also possessing an admirable self-awareness, which is vital for any champion.”
Cahill emphasized the importance of resilience, particularly following Sinner’s heartbreaking loss: “He needs to handle his emotions and maintain perspective, learning from setbacks and ensuring he stays focused on improving.”
Upcoming Matches for Sinner
Sinner’s quest to return to his winning ways will begin when he plays against Yannick Hanfmann in the first round of the Halle Open on Tuesday, June 17.
Plans for the Future
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz has also shared his intentions regarding retirement, stating during a conversation with magician Daniel Fernandez that he aims to compete until at least 2037, indicating he aspires to join the ranks of tennis’s greats.
Sinner and Alcaraz have been the dominant forces in Grand Slam tennis recently, and fans can look forward to seeing them continue to compete at the highest level for years to come.
