Jose Mourinho has addressed the speculation surrounding his potential return to Real Madrid while also hinting that a top player from the Bernabeu might be on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur.
Real Madrid is set to face Mourinho’s Benfica on Tuesday night in the first leg of their Champions League play-off, with a chance to advance to the last 16 at stake.
Mourinho Discusses Real Madrid Possibilities
The current head coach of Benfica, Mourinho, previously led Real Madrid to victories including a LaLiga title and a Copa del Rey during his time there, and he feels a strong connection to the club.
“I gave everything to Real Madrid,” he stated. “I have both successes and regrets, but I invested my all into that time. Leaving with that sentiment creates a lifelong bond.”
Despite Vinícius Júnior’s recent accolades of Mourinho, claiming he had a significant impact on the club’s history, the coach has dismissed rumors of rejoining, stating, “I don’t want to promote non-existent stories. I have a year left on my Benfica contract, which is special and contains a clause that can be activated by either party.”
Mourinho has expressed a desire to eliminate Real Madrid in the upcoming match, but also voiced his hopes for Alvaro Arbeloa’s success within the club in the long run.
Tottenham Pursuing Real Madrid Defender
Tottenham Hotspur appears to be moving closer to acquiring Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger, who is poised to leave the club on a free transfer. Reports indicate Spurs are in discussions with Rudiger, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Insider Graeme Bailey noted that intermediaries have reached out to Tottenham and other London clubs regarding the 32-year-old’s potential return. Spurs are reportedly leading the race given their financial capacity, though Rudiger may need to lower his current wage significantly to interest other clubs.
Real Madrid’s Ambitious Swap Proposal
Real Madrid has reportedly initiated talks with Liverpool about a bold swap deal involving Eduardo Camavinga and Dominik Szoboszlai. Following their signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold, they have also expressed interest in Alexis Mac Allister and Szoboszlai.
Speculation was fueled when Hungary’s national team coach mentioned that Szoboszlai dreams of playing for Real Madrid. However, reports suggest that Liverpool is determined to retain the midfielder and may even accommodate his contract demands, which could jeopardize Real’s ambitions for a high-profile summer transfer.
