The Genesis Invitational Returns to Riviera Country Club
The PGA TOUR is back at one of golf’s most renowned locations, The Riviera Country Club, for The Genesis Invitational. This marks a much-anticipated return for top players after the tournament was moved to Torrey Pines Golf Course in 2025 due to wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
This event is the second Signature Event of the season, featuring a limited field of 72 elite players. These participants secured their entries through their performances in the FedExCup standings for 2025 or through impressive starts in the Aon Swing 5 for 2026.
Key Highlights
The line-up is impressive as many notable players from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am travel to Pacific Palisades for this hallmark tournament. Notably, Scottie Scheffler seeks his first win at The Genesis, hoping to continue his streak of top-10 finishes, following a T4 result at Pebble Beach.
Rory McIlroy returns for his second consecutive week after finishing T14 in his season opener. Defending champion Ludvig Åberg, who won last year at Torrey Pines, will aim to regain his best form at Riviera. The 2024 winner Hideki Matsuyama, also returns, riding high on confidence.
Field Insights
With reigning FedExCup champion Tommy Fleetwood at the forefront, expect fierce competition from other recent winners, including Chris Gotterup and Justin Rose. Notable mentions also include established players such as Cameron Young, Viktor Hovland, and Collin Morikawa.
Sponsor Exemptions
Tournament host Tiger Woods has named Sahith Theegala as the recipient of the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption, granting him a place in the field. This annual exemption honors deserving minority golfers and continues Sifford’s legacy. Theegala expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to compete in Charlie’s memory.
Also joining the event are past champions Adam Scott and Max Homa, alongside Tony Finau and Tom Kim, all competing thanks to sponsor exemptions.
