Arne Slot is feeling ‘utterly broken’ by the transfer decisions made by Liverpool this summer, yet he needs to ‘suck it up’ instead of making excuses.

Liverpool Struggles
While it’s clear that Liverpool is facing challenges right now, the overarching question regarding managerial roles is whether clubs hire managers expecting them to navigate difficulties when they arise. If not, they may have chosen the wrong person.
In the past, managers would enter a new season with a fresh start, tackling issues as they saw fit, since they were often the ones most qualified to identify what was needed for improvement. Nowadays, a few bad results can lead to a manager’s quick dismissal before they get a chance to turn things around.
Football, like life, includes both tough times and good. Jurgen Klopp had his share of difficult phases, particularly the season with injuries to defenders. The faith people had in him during those times illustrates the importance of a manager’s role in identifying solutions. If Slot cannot be trusted to rectify the current issues, it casts doubt on whether he was the right choice for the job in the first place.
Currently, Liverpool has suffered six defeats in their last seven matches. Besides their initial seven wins this season, the disparity in results is apparent, despite similar performances. Factors such as key players underperforming and lack of fitness among others are troubling.
Defensive weaknesses, particularly involving VVD and Konate, alongside pressing issues and an ineffective deployment of new players, exacerbate the situation. Slot’s tactical decisions, such as overloading the attack, have also led to imbalances, hindering the team’s performance.
Despite widespread criticism of Slot regarding various decisions, including his treatment of Chiesa, there’s hope that they can secure victories in the upcoming matches. If results don’t improve, pressure will mount for ownership to consider a managerial change. However, instead of hastily firing him, a more strategic approach in selecting a potential successor could be preferable, allowing Slot time to address the current challenges.
