Ryan Appointed as President of Football Operations
ATLANTA – On Saturday morning, Arthur M. Blank, the Owner and Chairman of the Atlanta Falcons, announced the appointment of former NFL MVP and CBS Sports Analyst Matt Ryan as the team’s President of Football Operations.
Immediate Responsibilities
Ryan will take on his new role immediately, overseeing all facets of Falcons football. He will report directly to Blank and work closely with Falcons President and CEO Greg Beadles to ensure both the business and football operations align. The team is currently in the process of searching for a new head coach and general manager, both of whom will report to Ryan.
Blank’s Confidence in Ryan
“Matt’s exceptional leadership, game knowledge, and relentless drive to succeed during his 14-year career in Atlanta made him our most accomplished player,” said Blank. “I am certain that these qualities will greatly benefit our organization in this new capacity. Matt’s keen understanding of today’s NFL, along with his familiarity with our organization and market, positions him well as we aim for a championship caliber team for fans in Atlanta and beyond.”
Ryan’s Immediate Involvement
After accepting the position early Saturday, Ryan will immediately begin participating in the search for the new head coach and general manager.
A Legacy of Success
Ryan achieved remarkable success during his 14 seasons in Atlanta, leading the team to the playoffs five times, including two NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl appearance. He holds numerous franchise records, including career passing yards (59,735) and touchdowns (367), and boasts a regular season record of 120-102 (.541).
Community Impact and New Initiatives
Beyond football, Ryan has significantly impacted the community. He was nominated for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award in 2016 and has been involved with initiatives supporting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, March of Dimes, and the “ATL: Advance the Lives” organization, aimed at supporting Black youth in overcoming systemic challenges.
Ready for the Challenge
“I have a deep history with this team and am honored to be in this position,” said Ryan. “I understand that this role brings new challenges, but I am prepared and supported by great resources within this organization. My experiences as a player and leader give me confidence as I step into this new seat at the table.”
