Giants Begin Roster Cuts
The receiver segment of the Giants roster is starting to take shape.
Initial Cuts
Wide receivers Montrell Washington, Zach Pascal, and Jordan Bly were among the first eight players released by the Giants as they reduced their roster from 90 to 53 players on Friday. Other players cut included inside linebackers Dyontae Johnson and K.J. Cloyd, offensive linemen Jimmy Morrissey and Jaison Williams, and cornerback O’Donnell Fortune.
Impact on the Roster
The cuts of Washington—who showed impressive catching skills during training camp before suffering from drops—and veteran Pascal, with 169 career receptions, offer some breathing room for Jalin Hyatt and undrafted rookie Beaux Collins. Additionally, it clarifies the depth behind Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Wan’Dale Robinson.
Coaching Praise
Receivers coach Mike Groh expressed confidence in the group’s performance, stating, “Top to bottom, it’s as good a group as I’ve been around—competitively, in how they support one another and their daily preparation. They’ve all taken advantage of their opportunities, making it challenging for decision-makers.”
Injury Updates
RB Cam Skattebo made his NFL debut on Thursday, returning from a hamstring injury after just one practice. After his initial setback, he remarked, “The focus was to ‘get healthy.’ If it took longer, so be it; I’m improving every day.”
Individual Performances
DB TJ Moore experienced a rollercoaster event on Thursday, scoring a pick-six before suffering a severe leg injury that required hospitalization and surgery. Meanwhile, RG Evan Neal, adjusting to a new position, allowed four pressures on 24 pass-blocking snaps during his second preseason game.
Standout Contributions
TE Greg Dulcich led the league in preseason touchdown receptions before Friday, with three touchdowns to his name from QBs Dart and Tommy DeVito. The former Broncos player praised his quarterbacks’ talents, asserting their understanding of the offense fosters team growth as they compete for roster spots.
