On Thursday, Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), praised the positive atmosphere during the council’s annual general meeting (AGM) and indicated that an announcement regarding the upcoming Asia Cup would be made soon.
The meeting took place in Dhaka, organized by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), ahead of the Asia Cup, which is slated to occur in India this September. The event’s status remains uncertain due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan following a military incident in May.
According to a report from Hindustan Times, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) changed its earlier decision and attended the AGM virtually, having initially declined to participate due to tensions with Bangladesh and the possibility of a boycott.
Naqvi addressed the media afterward, noting the successful turnout with participation from all 25 ACC members, both in-person and virtually. He expressed appreciation for the collaborative spirit and emphasized the desire to keep politics out of cricket governance.
He assured that details regarding the Asia Cup schedule would be resolved promptly in discussions with the BCCI, downplaying India’s virtual attendance as a common occurrence in such meetings. Naqvi remained optimistic about resolving ongoing issues and holding the Asia Cup.
During the AGM, it was reported that all members were present, and a new comprehensive tournament calendar for 2025-2026 was approved. Additionally, cricket was confirmed to be included in the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, featuring teams selected based on rankings.
Acknowledging the shared responsibility of Asian cricketing nations, Naqvi emphasized the importance of collaboration in cricket, youth development, and umpiring. Other discussed topics included educational cooperation, renewable energy initiatives, and joint efforts to enhance women’s cricket, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
