Manchester United Eye Brighton Star Carlos Baleba, Potential Move Delayed until 2026

Manchester United shows interest in Carlos Baleba from Brighton, but signing him this summer appears difficult. However, there’s little cause for concern for Ruben Amorim. While a deal may not happen until 2026, the current United management has good alternatives lined up.
Brighton values Baleba at over £100 million, which could lead United to defer any pursuits this summer. Nevertheless, this situation might validate the club’s previous decision to offer Casemiro a four-year contract in 2022, as it can provide depth in the interim.
Reports suggest that the timeline might work out for United, with Casemiro expected to leave the club in 2026. The experienced midfielder commands high wages, and concerns over his long-term performance have arisen, especially as he nears his 34th birthday.
Initially criticized for extending Casemiro’s contract when he was already 30, the Brazilian has seen a resurgence, participating in 42 matches last season. He averaged about 3.5 tackles per game, which surpassed Baleba’s 2.3, highlighting his defensive skills despite his age.
Baleba, now 21, moved to Brighton from Lille for £23.2 million and has garnered attention after an impressive 2024/25 season. Though a move to Manchester might be on hold, Casemiro’s ongoing performance could allow for a seamless transition when the time comes.
With limited options at defensive midfield, United is counting on Casemiro’s experience for one more standout season. The decision to extend his contract could hinge on his performance in the coming year, while Baleba’s potential adds another dimension to United’s plans for the future.
