Scottie Scheffler Dominates The American Express
LA QUINTA, Calif. — As the new year unfolds, Scottie Scheffler remains at the top of his game. The world’s number one golfer enjoys starting the season in the California desert, assessing his performance and getting into tournament form. In The American Express, he showed little sign of struggle.
Scheffler excelled by making birdies on half of his holes, overcoming an early two-shot deficit to build a commanding lead of six shots before finishing with a 6-under 66, securing a four-shot victory.
“There’s always some rust when playing competitive golf,” Scheffler noted. “You can practice at home, but nothing compares to the pressure of a tournament. I’m glad to see that the things I’ve been working on are paying off.”
With four birdies across a six-hole stretch on the front nine, Scheffler quickly moved past 18-year-old Blades Brown and the rest of the field.
This marks Scheffler’s 20th victory on the PGA Tour, all within the last four years, earning him lifetime membership. Notably, nine of those wins have been by margins of four shots or more, highlighting his dominance in the sport.
He also joins legends like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as one of the only players with 20 PGA Tour titles and four majors before reaching 30 years old. “It’s pretty wild,” Scheffler commented, reflecting on his remarkable career start.
As Scheffler enjoyed his routine finish, he logged a final par putt to wrap up at 27-under 261. He’s been on a tear lately, winning four of his last six PGA Tour events and landing in the top 10 in 16 consecutive starts, the longest streak since 1970.
